Formula SAE is a student design competition organised by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers) originating in 1979 with the Mini Indy at the University of Houston, evolving into a full design and road-racing event with increased engineering content, eventually adopting the name of Formula SAE, and expanding to encompass 511 registered teams worldwide.
Through the Formula SAE competition, Team Swinburne offers engineering and business students a major project designing, building, marketing and racing a formula-style racecar. Each year, students have their skills and knowledge pushed to the limit producing innovative, robust and validated designs to ensure the legacy of Team Swinburne continues to grow.
